The Plexidor offers a unique and what Pet Door Store considers to be one of the most attractive dog doors on the dog-pet door market. Their solution is to use 2 dual pane hardened acrylic flaps which swing open from the center like a saloon door (extra large uses two single pane flaps). These rigid flaps are easier to seal than flexible vinyl. This door uses pile weather-stripping around the flap to seal it to the frame. The doors are spring loaded to return to the closed position.

With the advantages of a nearly unbreakable flap and good insulation, the Plexidor is a good choice for severe climates. This door comes with two different locking mechanisms. The door flaps can be locked in the closed position with a key, and the door also comes with a bolt on security cover in medium and larger sizes (small uses a knob lock, no key, no cover). There is an optional rail setup which allows the steel cover to slide into place for day to day use. Where most pet doors require periodic flap replacement, the Plexidor usually only requires a spring replacement every 3-5 years, making it less costly to maintain. Now available in silver (clear anodized), white (baked enamel), and bronze (anodized) frame colors.

Bot a door in the late 90s. Was impressed enough to buy again 25 years later. Improvements in the housing surrounding the springs makes the product easier to maintain.

We have had our Plexidor Dog door for about 8 years now. I decided to write a review tonight because i was on the site to get information for yet another friend that i am recommending this product to. This dog door has been used probably 30 times a day for 8 years. Our dog (s) go in and out so many times. they love it. And sometimes they just stand with their head sticking out, deciding if the rain is too much. The door is easy to clean, and looks as good as the day we installed it. Our 30 lb Cattle dog uses it now, and her 8 lb Chihuahua sister used it too. The design is the key. This is not a cheap door, but you get what you pay for.

This door is a great improvement to the "flap" door we had originally. It offers two different ways to lock the door for more security and does a good job of insulating. The doors don't swing open in strong wind like a flap does. I definitely recommend the slide rails which are extra, but allow the security panel to be slid in quickly and gives good security as well as avoids the dogs running into the locked doors. The one negative I saw with this door was an issue we had with my older dog. She would poke her head out the door and then try to pull it back which ended up pinching her. I don't think there's any real danger of choking but she was afraid of the door and we had to train her to go straight through rather than just poke her head out. The panels are easy to replace and that gives it a new look as well once they've aged a bit.
