  • Does not fit some wood screen framing with the screen mesh sandwiched between 2 pieces of wood!

The Hale screen door is the strongest design available. It attaches to the metal frame for the screen on the side and across the bottom, making it a much better choice for dogs than a pet door that only clips to the screen mesh, like the Ideal Screen Fit cat door.

The flaps are the same as those used on the very weather tight door model. While weather tightness might not be a factor on a screen installation, these will also be more bug proof than other pet doors. The screen model does not come with a locking cover

When installing a pet door of this type the "rise" dimension is fixed. This means that the screen frame will have it's dimension, and the pet door will sit on top of the screen frame, and the pet door will be approximately 1 " over the top of the screen frame. This is fine for smaller dogs or cats, because the pet door usually starts about 3 " off the ground. With larger dogs, the pet door can be a bit low, so we usually recommend that you get a taller flap than you would for a regular door installation.

The pictures of the frame colors will vary with your particular monitor and the brown background on the pictures doesn't do us any favors, but they are shown to give an approximate idea of the colors available. Satin is actually a brushed aluminum, similar to the bottom of a soda can. A good description of the beige is like coffee with 2 creams in it. White is bright white, bronze is almost black.

48" stabilizer bar option matches the pet door frame color. We suggest you use the stabilizer bar for larger sizes, or if your smaller pets will charge through the pet door at full speed. The stabilizer bars come 48" and are cut to fit your door.

A great testimonial on a Lanai installation: "Hello, Just wanted to let you know that my Hale pet door flap is finally starting to break down and I will be ordering a replacement flap. What is remarkable is that I purchased this in 2007, and have two very active Labrador Retrievers who've used the door constantly for 7 years now. Great product, great service. It's so refreshing when a product exceeds expectations. Best Regards, Jim S. Coconut Creek, FL" And here is another from a new installation: "I installed my door this morning in about 30 minutes. It took the dog about 10 minutes to figure it out and she has since made several excursions through the door. This is a great addition to our house. Thank you, Michael G. Peabody, MA"

Wood Frames:

If your wood screen frame has a metal insert, this door will work. If your wood screen frame has two pieces of wood which sandwich the screen mesh, it will not work.

Attention DIY Installers:

We have had quite a few customers complain after receiving their door that the spline channel is on the wrong side. The Hale screen door has a channel for the spline on both sides of the frame, but for some reason one side looks obvious and the other does not.

I was very impressed with the quality of the door when I received it. However, I had measured the thickness of my screen door incorrectly so I had to return it and order a new one. I spoke directly with the owner regarding the issue and was pleased with the assistance I received. My dog and I are still working on training. She has only gone through it once so far without a treat on the other side!

    Excellent Door

The only problem is trying to "stretch" the screen around the top corners. I'm concerned it may tear in time, other than that it is a good door.

    Great Doggie Door

This doggie door is great for my 3 large dogs. Well made looks great & so far durable. I have a 120 lb mastiff mix who runs through the door at full speed & the flap opens & closes without any problem. I like the fact that the flap closes & does not allow mosquitoes into the pool area. The flap is well made & the dogs learned quickly how to use the door. Aesthetically the door is vey nice to look at & bless with the screen enclosure. Would definitely recommend. Well worth the price.

This is an excellent Pet Door. I was hesitant at first given the price compared to some other pet doors, but since it is so highly recommended by dealers, I decided to go ahead and try it. Also, the "Giant" size door that Hale makes was appropriate as I have a Great Dane. The construction material of the door is high quality. I have no complains in that regard. I mounted the door in my screen porch so I had the modified door with one flange removed because the location was thicker than 1/2" (this was not a problem with mounting). Since I ordered the "Giant" size door, the stabilizer bar was automatically included in the package. I believe this accessory would normally be appropriate in most circumstances if the opening the door is mounted in will not by wider than 2x the width of the door. However, in my case, the opening was considerably wider than the pet door so I opted by making a custom stabilizer bar myself. I wound up using 1/8" 90deg angle aluminum bar and mounting it to the door Vertically rather than Horizontally which is the default for the stabilizer bar. This proved to be much more stable than the included bar. I also would up riveting the bar and door together and also I used 1/4" rivets to mount the door to the aluminum screen frame. The final installation is extremely sturdy and attractive. The dogs are just now getting used to using the door rather than the main screen door. I had to remove the door flap initially to train my Great Dane as he is afraid of his own shadow so the flap scared him and he wouldn't use the door at first. After some time, I will re-introduce the flap and gradually acclimate him to it. Pros: sturdy door construction and great instructions on mounting. Good customer support for PetDoorStore also. Con: Only con was that I wasn't able to use the included stabilizer bar for my install, but I believe it would work in most instances.

Luv this door. Purrfecto! Heavy duty and great sealed fit. Researched many doors and even talked to the owner. Good company.
